ABOUT THE PLAY
Comedy. 3 either (see note below). 10 minutes.
Unit or suggested set. Suitable for high school and up.
Whatever Happened to Godot? premiered
at City Theater Company's Delaware Ten-Minute Play Festival. It
is possible to do the cast with all men, all women, or with the
Man played by a woman (to very comic effect) and Godot and the
Boy as men. Godot should not be played by a Woman (and nor should
the Boy) if the Man is, indeed, played by a man.
SYNOPSIS
Con artist Godot lives with the amnesiac Boy. He's preparing to
fleece his next marks, Vladimir and Estragon, but before he can
go, a threatening Man arrives. Evidently, Godot's actions have
gotten him in trouble with the wrong people, and the Man is their
enforcer. The only way Godot can escape certain pain is to pretend
that he is not, in fact, Godot, but Godot's butler. When the enforcer
decides to stay and wait for the seemingly absent Godot to return,
the real Godot becomes stuck, waiting for himself.
