Free Monologues - Peter

From Neverland

Peter, thirty and living on the street, talks to Wendy, a woman giving out tongue sandwiches. Featured in 60 Seconds to Shine: 221 One-Minute Monologues for Men from Smith & Kraus, it's part of Neverland.

PETER
It's me. It's always me. My mother hated me.
(beat)
I saw a man on the next block wearing a bra and going from can to can, sampling everybody's garbage. He didn't have a tongue. If he's not full, he might want those tongue sandwiches. I think his name is Bob. I think it's Bob because I called him Jesus once and he didn't answer. I have to go. The police come around at ten and chase everybody out. They'll hit you with a baton if you don't leave fast enough. I got a leg cramp once, so I couldn't get up as fast as they wanted me to. Thwack. Guy was late for watching pro wrestling at the bar around the corner. Thwack. Hurt like a bitch for a month. I'm thirty. My body feels like it's seventy. What time is it?
(beat)
Sometimes they come early.

Rumors of Polar Bears:

Though the one-act version, available from Playscripts, stands on its own (and is perfect for competition!), this play was always intended to be a full-length composed of three acts:  Rumors of Polar Bears, Ursa Major and Northern Lights.  Look for the other two plays in the cycle sometime in 2012.
